An ongoing project I'm working on, is the character Billy. He's the mascot for an online service called Billy's Billing, an accounting and billing service for Freelancers and small companies. Currently it's only available in Danish, but an American version is under development.
The character Billy started out as a generic stock-character, until the creative director and I had a talk about what Billy should symbolise and how he should look. He needed to be a trustworthy person, and at the same time he shouldn't embody the stereotype most people have about accountants. After a lot of sketching, and different vectorized versions, we ended up with the final version. Billy is the personification of Billy's Billing, and with a service that's strictly online, and focuses on it's interface, he helps give it that extra touch, which most of the competition lacks.
